RAMADAN 2022
Author: Fawaaz Bahmany
The blessed month of Ramadan is upon us once again! For Muslims across the globe, these few weeks are a sacred time for worship. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim lunar calendar where Muslims who are mature and healthy enough are prescribed in the Holy Quran to fast from dawn until dusk. During the holy month, Muslims wake up early to a pre-dawn meal called Suhoor and they break their fast at dusk with a meal referred to as Iftar. Since fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to God, and a way to become more compassionate to those in need. Fasting is also seen as a way to learn patience and break bad habits.
As the Islamic calendar is based around the lunar cycle, the Holy month of Ramadan rotates by approximately ten days each year. This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on Saturday April 2, 2022, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Eid- Al-Fitr marks the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. This year, Eid al-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on Monday May 2, 2022. However, the exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon.
